Learnership
What is a learnership?
A Learnership is a work-based route to a qualification. It is a work-place education and training programme comprising both structured practical work-place (on-the-job) experience and structured theoretical training. The duration of a Learnership is approximately twelve months, and results in a full qualification. Learnerships are important because success is measured in terms of actual skills that the learner acquires. A Learner is taught why and how things are done and must understand the theory that supports the practice.Learnerships help people to improve basic literacy and numeracy. The learners are assessed at various stages to see if they are progressing and are able to perform the tasks for which they are being trained.

A learnership involves three main parties: The learner; The training provider and the employer
Who can apply for a learnership
Only employers can apply for Learnerships to be implemented. Individuals cannot apply. Individuals can only become involved through an employer.
